“Self-Care” is the current trend. Any wellness, beauty or popular magazine or talk show hails the power and necessity for it. But why isnt this intuitive? Why is it that we even have to make a public statement that care of yourself, your needs, desires, dreams…. even your physical body is important?
Clearly it is all easier said than done. We can all agree that OF COURSE it is important to maintain our physical health. OF COURSE it is important to put healthy things into our body, to exercise, to connect to others , to connect to oneself. The better thing to focus on is: WHY IS THIS SO HARD TO DO? Why is it so challenging to do what we need and care for ourselves? It is a life long journey to figure out the nuances of human behavior and psyche…. however I will make it simple.
Let’s just accept that it is not easy. Let’s accept that it is a chore to make healthy decisions for our mind, body and spirt daily. Let’s accept our feelings about it: whatever those feelings may be. And then let’s set intentions to move towards this as a goal. Choose one thing to improve, and do it daily, in small increments. When you don’t do it, accept it, identify what your challenges were, and move on to try again next time. Praise yourself for when you treat yourself well and for when you accept that you didn’t meet your goal.
Here is my challenge to you today: Love yourself enough to set an intention for yourself and no one else. If you have been wanting to meditate daily, add more vegetables to your diet, allow yourself time to breathe regularly – whatever it is, set that intention today and that is the beginning of your journey. I’m on this journey with you and am setting my intention right now…
